Participants generated a sequence of free associations in response to presented cue words, categorized as positive, neutral, or negative, enabling a dynamic progression of their responses. The duration of consecutive, negatively-valenced free associations formed the conceptual framework for State RNT. Within this JSON schema, a list of sentences is generated. Two self-report instruments were used to assess the participants' trait RNT and trait negative affect levels. Negative response chain length, unlike positive or neutral lengths, demonstrated a positive correlation with trait RNT and negative affect in a structural equation model.
