“In 2008, the worldwide estimated age-standardised incidence rates for thyroid cancer incidence were 4.7 and 1.5 per 100 000 women and men, respectively. Thyroid cancer’s overall contribution to the worldwide cancer burden is relatively small, but incidence rates have increased over the last three decades throughout the world. This trend has been hypothesised to reflect a combination of technological advances enabling increased detection, but also changes in environmental factors, including population exposure to ionising radiation from fallout, diagnostic tests and treatment for benign and malignant AEB071 conditions. Studies of the atomic bomb survivors and populations treated with radiotherapy have established radiation as a risk factor for thyroid cancer, particularly from early life exposure. Pleomorphic adenoma with extensive lipometaplasia is a rare, benign tumor of salivary gland origin. To the best of our knowledge, the fine needle aspiration cytologic features of this distinct morphologic entity have not been documented before.

Case

A 49-year old male presented with right-sided parotid swelling that was clinically diagnosed as a pleomorphic adenoma.

It remains unclear whether the ecological diversity within the Kilombero valley has affected the population structure of An. gambiae s.l. populations. The goal of this study was to characterise the genetic structure of sympatric An. gambiae s.s and An. arabiensis populations along the Kilombero valley.

“Methods: The study population consisted of 16 consecutive pediatric patients with focal AT enrolled between March 1991 and June 2009. A retrospective analysis was performed. The patients with focal AT were divided into two groups:

the AAT group and other AT (OAT) group, in which the foci arose from other atrial sites.

Results: Fifty percent had AAT. The AAT patients consisted of more males (88% vs 25%; P < 0.05), were more often asymptomatic at the initial visit (75% vs 25%; P < 0.05), and more often presented with an incessant form of the AT (88% vs 25%; P < 0.05) than the OAT patients. Second-degree atrioventricular block during slow ATs of

“Purpose of review

Overdiagnosis has become a major problem in medicine in general and cancer in particular.

This prospective randomized clinical study included 38 patients with histologically confirmed endometrial carcinoma and staged clinically as stage I. Immunohistochemical staining of the tumor specimens obtained by dilatation and curettage with P53 monoclonal antibodies was done. The patients were randomized into two groups according to the planned surgical treatment: hysterectomy group and hysterectomy plus pelvic lymphadenectomy group.

There was no significant difference in mean age, parity, medical status, surgical stage, histologic types, grade of differentiation, and myometrial invasion between the two groups. The survival rate

in the hysterectomy group in our study was 82.4% and the recurrence OSI-906 ic50 rate was 17.6%, while in hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy group the survival rate was 81.0% and the recurrence rate was 19%.
